E155 – BROWN HT or CHOCOLATE BROWN (C.I. 20285)
Brown HT is an azoic brown colorant of synthetic origin.
This colorant can be contained essentially in bakery and pastry products.
It can give reactions of hyperactivity, asthma, rhinitis, urticaria and insomnia; moreover, if present in high concentrations, it can cause possible sedimentations at renal and lymphatic level. In combination with benzoates it can cause hyperactivity in children.
According to some researchers it could be carcinogenic.
